Admin was the bane of construction,
until Unbane.

A Lesson From The Inside

When Kumi and Markell relocated to Columbus for tech careers, they landed in the middle of America's largest infrastructure boom. Curious about how technology could intersect with construction's pain points, they went to construction sites to see how the work really happened.

The mismatch was obvious: superintendents ran multi-million, sometimes billion-dollar projects by phone, then spent nights and holidays doing data entry in software made for people working behind desks.

Markell and Kumi realized that software itself was the problem, created without consideration for the reality of onsite work. Workers wake up at 4am and spend 12 hours on their feet with heavy equipment and specialized tools. The last thing they want to do is stay late typing on a computer.

We built Unbane to meet construction where it actually is: onsite, voice-first, and human.

Who We Are

Markell Baldwin

Cofounder

Markell is a former Tesla hardware engineer and venture capital investor. He spent seven years at Tesla, where he designed the patented seat sensor system for Model 3 after pitching the concept to Elon directly. He built and led the team that brought the system to production across Tesla's vehicle line. After Tesla, he joined Drive Capital as a Partner, backing founders building with AI for enterprises. At Unbane, he's applying the same first-principles thinking: onsite leaders work in environments where screens don't belong, so it is time to build tools that respect the reality of the job site rather than ignore it.

Kumi Walker

Cofounder

Kumi is a former public company executive and current board advisor with a track record of building businesses from zero to exit. He led Business Development at StackMob through its acquisition by PayPal, scaled partnerships at Twitter, and served as Chief Business Development Officer at Root Insurance from Series A through IPO. Throughout his career, he's focused on scaling businesses while staying true to their mission. At Unbane, he's focused on serving an industry that's been overlooked by modern software by moving fast, building deep relationships, and delivering solutions that actually work for the people using them.

Unbane Advisory Council

Guided by world-class expertise in construction and artificial intelligence, we build solutions that are powerful and purpose-built for the people who use them.

Mission

For on-site construction leaders, today's software doesn't work. It requires screens, logins, and email identities—none of which fit the reality of managing work on site. The result: hours lost to after-the-fact reporting, risk of non-compliance, and messy disputes with no clean records to back you up.

At Unbane, we believe construction coordination should be as natural as having a conversation. We build solutions for the people running jobs on site.

Complex projects—like datacenter construction—are high-pressure, fast-moving, and full of risk. Based in Columbus, OH, we've watched the demand for data centers surge and seen what happens when infrastructure moves faster than the tools meant to manage it. We're here to close that gap.

Values

    Refresh

    Built for On-site Leaders

We deeply respect the individuals working on site. Often underappreciated, our core mission is to honor and uplift them by delivering solutions that make their lives easier.

    Circle

    Built for Endurance

Great infrastructure isn't built overnight, and neither are great companies. We move with urgency while building for the long haul—solving hard problems that matter, one job site at a time.

    Voice

    Built to Win

Construction is competitive. The best teams win by working smarter, not harder. We're here to give onsite leaders an edge—tools that eliminate friction, reduce risk, and let them focus on what they do best: building.
